Depends on which era to which you refer.  In part of the pre-radio
era, the Advertiser was the morning paper, the Record was the
afternoon, and the American was the Sunday.

I think the rise of mass media -- television in particular -- has
effectively eliminated the utility of the afternoon papers.  How many
cities can you think of that still have both?
