No. WBOS-FM only carried "Music Theater." I'm not sure Ken Mayer was still on WBOS
by the time WBOS-FM came on the air.
Music Theater consisted of beautiful music, with a very eclectic selection, much like what
Bob has been doing on WJIB. It was on originally for a few hours in the afternoon on WBOS
AM. When WBOS-FM came on sometime in February 1960, Music THeater was expanded
to cover most of the day, from 6 AM to 7 PM and again after 10 PM, leaving only the 7-10
block for the leased-time ethnic stuff. The leased-time stuff also ran all day on Sunday until
10 PM. At first, WBOS-FM was on only simulcasting the AM and only during the hours that
Music THeater was on, apparently under program test authority. They had an elaborate ID
that ran something like "These are the Music THeater stations, WBOS-AM, 1600 kilocycles
at the top of your AM dial and WBOS-FM, now conducting periodic program tests at 92.9
megacycles on the FM band." I think they forgot to mention the COL, since I was unaware
for a long time that it was Brookline.
This program test phase lasted for a couple of months, as I recall. Finally, when it was over,
they began running Music Theater on FM separately during the hours when AM was doing
the leased-time programs. I don't think Ken Mayer was still there by then, but he was never
on FM. Only Music Theater was ever on FM.
