Re: Former Maine broadcaster killed in crash

John noted of the sad news (from AP)
>>A former Maine radio broadcaster was killed late Tuesday night in a
one-car crash in Georgetown.
Brian McGarry, 53, (snip) <<

Brian was one of those extremely rare radio talents who was possessed of an
almost-unleashable energy, an extremely quick wit, and a set of pipes to
make the walls rattle.
i first heard Brian when he was doing WIGY shifts in the late 70's/early
'80's, then had the opportunity to work with him at WGAN in the early '80's.
he did airwork in New Hampshire, too, i believe, and even had an on-air
audition at WBZ under the Rick Starr regime.
i last spoke with him a half-dozen years or so ago when he was getting
ready to put roots down in Florida, his future there not planned out, but a
move to which he was looking forward with excitement.
his family home is in Georgetown, and i'd heard that he was back in Maine
to help with family matters. if you've ever made the ride to Popham Beach,
you pass right by his family home on the main road there (the one with the
USMC logo on the front lawn).
my sympathies to Brian's family and close friends. sadly, like his Grahm
Jr College roommate and friend, Andy Kaufman, a talent gone far too soon.
