As I recall, at WMUA when I was there back in the 1960s, we always had some engineering
students involved, who had First Class licenses and were fully qualified to keep the station
running properly. It probably helped that the station was located in the main engineering
building, with the tower on top of the building. That's no longer the case, but with a sizeable
engineering school at the University, I think they still get qualified students who can handle
the technical side of things.
