Talk radio in general seems to do poorly with women. I did an informal
survey of female friends & acquaintances a few years ago, and almost none
of them ever listened to talk radio. None specifically mentioned being put
off by conservative viewpoints or the lack of female hosts...it just seems
that the genre does not appeal to women. Now some may say that it's
because talk radio is so male-leaning, but I'm not so sure. I find it hard
to believe that any format would deliberately set out to exclude 50% of the
population...talk radio any more than soft AC (which has a largely female
audience). While there is no doubt a chicken-and-egg analogy here, my
guess is that talk radio has gravitated to conservative male hosts because
that's who the audience is. Maybe more a Mars vs Venus thing?
