I don't know what its ratings were (it competed
with news on WBZ and Imus/Barnicle on WTKK);
quality-wise, it wasn't too bad, with both
issues-oriented and lighter topics.
I don't know if WRKO should hire women just because
they're women but the fact is that they have no
female talk hosts right now. If there are some
out there who can do a great job, I'd think they'd
hire them; but how about Elder's comment that
"most women wouldn't want to hear women" hosting
a talk show?
If he's got ratings proof that the show (McCarthy
and Vigue) did poorly among female listeners,
then either Mc & V weren't doing a good job
or his theory might be right. Again, without
actual ratings numbers I have no idea...Who
knows, it may have done well in the ratings and
it was purely a (how many times have we heard
this) "business decision"-- one host works cheaper
than two, and from what I've heard, Darlene and
Doreen had high salaries. (If not, perhaps Elder
could have simply continued the show with
either Darlene or Doreen, but not both, as host...)
