You can learn a lot about the FCC in about 5 minutes...

Was just watching a hearing on the lifting of media
ownership caps on C-SPAN. Now I only tuned in in the
last 5 minutes of the hearing, but in that very 5
minutes I found out that one could learn quite a bit
about our "Funny Cookie Committee," or whatever other
name that can be applied there. A question was asked
of the FCC representative (his name escapes me at the
moment): Considering the current definition of radio
ownership limits and COL, what market would WHFS(FM)
Annapolis MD be considered part of for these rules,
Washington DC or Baltimore? After the question there
was silence, the sounds of a few officials rustling
around asking each other how that would be handled,
and after about a minute and a half or two minutes of
this rustling, the representative abruptly changed the
subject to the new television ownership cap numbers.
Boy, what an FCC we have when they don't even know
what they themselves are doing! And yet, they are
about to apply new rules to television where this very
issue brought up is also applicable. Downright scary
if you ask me
