Gasp! For broadcast media, patriotism pays

There is a great article in The Washington Post this morning about radio and TV consultants pimping the war to their clients because it is good for business.

Some quick points:
On the newspaper end, over the next few weeks, we will be doing stories about local soldiers and how their parents are coping. At my paper, we already have. But we also have an editorial section where other viewpoints about the war - whatever they may be - can be covered. Where is the balance in the media?
I am personally glad that the corporate consolidation angle was covered. The fact that there is almost no open discussion about the validity of this war is frightening.
I have had to shut off FoxNews and almost all of talk radio because of the relentless - almost gleeful - coverage of this war.
As well, I am infuriated that these talk hosts and war shills continue to question my integrity as an American because I refuse to support this war or support Bush. Dissent is a basic First Amendment right. Have we learned nothing from our history? Have we learned nothing about the damn constitution?

Back to the grindstone.
