Good choice for the team. WJUL has a great (FM) signal that covers all of
the towns that would have much of an interest in Spinners games. And no,
there's no call letter change in the works for the old alma mater (unless
I'm further out of the loop than expected.) WLTI (Lowell Technological
Institute) flipped calls to WJUL (University of Lowell) in 1975. The
calls survived the change to University of Massachusetts Lowell. The
history lesson we all got at the WJUL 50th birthday party last October
included the choices the station had at "UL" calls. One choice was WXUL.
The "J" was reported to stand for "joint(s)" under Lowell/under library,
etc., among those so inclined...so I was told...just heard things...only
bogarted microphones....
