Re: working in radio

I do. Like some, I eat, live and breathe radio. Currently the PM News
Anchor on the Information Radio Network based here in Memphis. I also jock
weekends on WGKX (Country) 'Kix 106', and WJZN 'Smooth Jazz' 98.9.
Back in the 80s, I worked at 104.5 WXLO Fitchburg/Worcester back in it's
humble beginnings from 160 Pritchard St., Fitchburg (a little broom closet
at the WFGL 960 studios).
Also was on the late 97.7 WINQ Winchendon in 1988-90 - was one of the ONLY
live jocks, doing the Country Jukebox show. That was fun, the music library
was my own collection (they were doing Oldies at the time - interesting
story behind this show) and I even wrote the format for it..too cool.
Course, I got my start in radio at little WCAT-AM 1390 in 1980. Worked
there (and was fired there) 4 separate times in the 80s, even did time there
when they moved to 700 am and doing big band - with the WPNS calls (yea go
ahead and guess what we few jocks called it, LOL - maybe that's why they
changed calls back to WCAT first opportunity). I lived with my parents 2
miles from the station - I was either desperate or a glutton for punishment,
but man, do I wish I could go back now and do it all over again!
The other station I worked at several different times starting in 1984 was
WHAI AM/FM in Greenfield. Nice family station. The last time I worked
there was in the fall of '99 while I was trucking. I'd just call PD Jay
Fidanza when I got into town and he'd hook me up with a show. Probably the
best arrangement I ever had.... radio-on-demand! LOL. I guess that place
has probably changed since Ann Banash sold the place. It had to be one of
the last 'family owned' stations around.
I love the list! Been a member of this off and on since 1996 and you guys
rock! Mr. Wollman has a great thing going here. I guess I pattern my
moderator duties over at the radio-info.com Boston board after this board.
Whenever any of you want to hear some classic radio, head over to my site
www.airchexx.com. I got hundreds of em online now. (Apologize for the
shameless plug - but hey, its free!). See, I really do breathe radio. I
must be half-crazed!
