Re: Boston Herald Online Goes Pay-Per-View

<< According to Cosmo Macero in today's Herald,

http://www2.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/coz03032003.htm

some columnists and other stuff will no longer be
available
online for free.

There's a mention of Howie Carr's listeners ranting for
two days about this.

My question: Would you pay $4.95/month per columnist to
read his/her column? >>

I would be surprised if they got 100 subscriptions. You
will still be able to access the columns for free through
power databases at a good deal of libraries. (My school's
database lets me search through a decade's worth of the
Globe and Herald, among hundreds of other papers, for no
charge. So much for $2.95/article fee they charge with
their archive service.) Just another sign, IMO, that
they're in deep financial doo over there (paying $150 mil
for CNC will do that to ya).
