Re: WABC IMISSEDIT NEWS
I should have added Jim Jensen was at WCBS (coming from WBZ)
Long forgotten is the role WNAC had in all this. In late 68 or 69 a news
director was brought in to try to make 7 a serious news player as RKO
General fought to keep license. The format was blood and guts with tight
switching and blaring band music. The newcasts were called New England
Today or Tonight depending on slot and was a very slick package for the
era. The format didn't catch on here as 4 and 5 were too entrenched but
it caught the eye of WFIL in Philadelphia who hired the news director
and the marching band. The result was ACTION NEWS which became a
monster.
BTW for years Channel 4 used music from a James Bond movie to intro the
news, anybody know the name of it?
