Re: Michael Savage

I agree that the name calling gets old quite early on. It's the most obvious
reason to question Savage's credibility. I think that my initial reaction,
based on the constant raving and the imprecations to nuke Saddam ("I can't
understand what we're waiting for.") was pretty typical--that the guy is at
least one hors d'oeuvre short of a cocktail party. But I found him absolutely
mesmerizing.

Considering his academic credentials (he has a PhD--I think in Nutrition), I
decided that he knew exactly what would sell and had decided to deliver it. In
other words, the whole show is nothing BUT a big act. Then I decided that the
name calling indicated the kind of single-digit-IQ listeners he was pandering
to. So in the span of less than two months, I went from loathing him, to still
loathing him but being drawn to him like a moth to a flame, to just straight
loathing him all over again. I no longer listen.

I also think that they guy is potentially dangerous. If you've ever heard any
recordings of Adolph Hitler's speeches (they're in German, of course, and I
don't understand German, but I have a feeling that what Hitler said is no more
off the wall than what Savage says), Savage seems to have Hitler's intonation
and tempo down cold. I can almost hear Savage saying to himself, "if this
worked so well in Germany 70 years ago, why won't it work equally well in the
US today?" The scariest part is that that line of thinking seems to be correct.
