One odd thing that I remember about the Great Northeast Power Blackout is that in the City of Holyoke, the power never went out.  I think they had a municipal power company, which for some reason wasn't hooked in to the grid.<<

On the WABC airchecks, the studio eventually lost its power (as you will hear), but the transmitter (in Lodi, NJ) never did, since that part of New Jersey was on an independent power grid.  Dan Ingram and newsman Tom Romano drove out to Lodi and did a show from the emergency studio  until 4 AM November 10th.
