Re: Hutch
To Roy Lawrence: You obviously don't know what you're talking about when you call Greater Media cheap because Hutch does weekend shifts on two stations.
True, there are probably several warm bodies at Emerson "Collage" (as you called it) willing to do weekend airshifts. What makes you think that any of them are qualified for on-air work in a major market? College radio is a great way to get one's feet wet in radio, but it doesn't count when it comes to commercial on-air experience.
Hutch is a seasoned pro with years of experience in several major markets. He also has the ability to do multiple formats. Greater Media has six on-air studios right next to each other on the Boulevard. One can leisurely stroll from WBOS to WROR during a 60-second promo. Even take a moment to stick one's head into WKLB and Magic and say hi to the jocks. There is plenty of time for a pee break while Audio Vault plays a 6-unit stop set.
Part-time Air Talent is paid by the shift. There is no money to be saved by having one person do multiple shifts, but there certainly a comfort in knowing that an experienced pro is on the air. And Mr. Pappalardo os exactly right - Hutch is delighted to be on both stations. And both stations are delighted to have him on the air.
