I dunno....a kidnapping is a sensitive thing.  

If you're a cop working 
such a case, and you know that there is a chance of getting the child 
back; would you be able to sleep or live with yourself knowing that there 
was a chance to get that kid back even if his/her distraught parents 
called you an idiot?

So they call you an idiot? Big deal.  Your job as a cop working a 
kidnapping is to get the abductee back, alive would be preferred.
