Complaint Filed With FCC Over Opie & Anthony's Latest Stunt
According to an article I found on line at the New York Daily News
website www.nydailynews.com The Catholic League for Religious and Civil
Rights has filed a formal letter of complaint with the FCC asking them to
revoke the license of WNEW-FM (102.7 New York) after a stunt that aired on
the "Opie and Anthony Show" on Thursday. A man and woman from Virginia took
part in a contest to see who would have sex in the riskiest place. This
particular couple chose to have their tryst inside Saint Patrick's Cathedral
in Manhattan, apparently with worshipers inside the Cathedral observing the
Catholic Holy Day The Feast of The Assumption, with a comedian providing
live reports on the air describing the couples' activities. The couple was
arrested and appeared in court yesterday, released on bail. Opie & Anthony
could not comment on the air yesterday about what happened on Thursday's
show, saying that "the lawyers have told us not to discuss our little event
yesterday". WNEW's GM issued an apology and said that the station has taken
measures to ensure this doesn't happen again.
I wonder if the FCC will take any action against Infinity, the owners of
WNEW, and will Opie & Anthony face any punishment in the wake of their
latest stunt. They certainly have ticked off many Catholics with this one.
