WCVB News Messes Up Boston Radio Call Letters and Welcomes Harvey Leonard
Saw on yesterday's WCVB (Channel 5 Boston) 5PM news a story about
Massachusetts State Treasurer and candidate for Governor Shannon O'Brien
appearing as a guest on a talk show on FM Talk 96.9. Channel 5 anchor Liz
Brunner reported that O'Brien made comments on a talk show on Boston radio
station "WTTK". Didn't they become WZLX several years ago? Either an error
on Liz Brunners' part or on the part of whoever typed up the script for the
teleprompter.
While on the subject of Channel 5, has anyone else noted or kept count of
how many "Harvey Leonard's Here" promos they're running during their
newscasts? Saw 2 during the 5PM segment last night, and 2 during the 11PM
news Thursday night. I was in Old Orchard Beach, Maine for a couple of days,
and WCVB is carried on the Time Warner Cable system in OOB, as are WBZ-TV
(Channel 4) and WHDH (Channel 7). Thus I was able to see Dick Albert welcome
Harvey Leonard aboard on Thursday.
I also noticed that WCVB has redone their news intros, looks like
they're trying to look a little more flashy, and they are now joining in on
having the co-anchors stray away from the desk and standing up every now and
then in front of the "blue screen" while the graphics or video are showing
behind the anchor. Channel 7 started this practice in the Boston market, and
Channels 4 and 56 (WLVI) are still keeping the anchors seated for the entire
newscast. WFXT (Channel 25) is the only Boston station that features "stand
up news", the anchors standing up for the entire hour. Hope their shoes are
comfortable!!
