What? Who died? Elvis? No Way!
unfortunately, the candle-light vigils at Groucho's
place, along with all of the commemorative glass-nose-
'stache collectors' items did indeed get swept to the
side of the Marx legacy. he and his brothers were
possessed of lightning-quick wit that made us all smile.
the Elvis phenom will hit stratospheric levels this
week, no doubt. and as i work in an Oldies format in
Maine (one that does play pre-Beatles tunes, btw, on a
regular basis), i'll be just as guilty of contributing
to the hype. Portland's Cumberland County Civic Center
even has booked an Elvis Tribute Show for Saturday
evening, the 25th anniversary of the Concert That Never
Was.
now, if Groucho had worn that white jumpsuit, perhaps
things would have turned out differently. (Thank
(insert Deity here) that did NOT happen!)
