For those who find the taste of Moxie "strange", there's an explanation.  When I was a young lad (8-10 years old), I went to the dentist for treatment of a canker sore on my gum.  The dentist painted a bright purple concotion on my gums.  It had a very bitter taste to it.  It was called Gentian Violet.

Fast forward 20 years - I'm taking my first drink of Moxie.  Voila! The Same Taste. I looked at the label, and sure enough - gentian root extract.  Not surprising, because Moxie was first formulated by a doctor from Maine,
