The article you referenced notes that `La Soiree du Hockey' began in
October of 1952.  This probably makes it the very first sports
programming on French-language television in Canada, since it was in
1952 that Canada's first French-language television station, CBFT 2 in
Montreal, went on the air.  CBFT made its debut a few months after
Toronto's CBLT, and for the first couple of years (until January 10,
1954, when CBMT 6 signed on) CBFT broadcast programs in both
languages.
