Re: Newspaper article on WHCN format change
I listened to WHCN the other night. Awful. This format is just more
corporate throw-up from Clear Channel.
Granted, my memories of WHCN are during their progressive and AOR days,
which have long since passed anyway, but this format is drivel. Lots of
voice-over liners, high compression that makes it very tiring to listen
for any length of time, and boring, over-tired songs that you can hear
anywhere. Nothing is given time to breathe, as pre-recorded liners butt
up against songs and the compression is set so high the beginnings of
songs are buried under the liners.
The people at WCCC, WPLR and WAQY have reason to be happy. The
competition between WCCC and WHCN has been going on since WCCC turned
AOR in 1975 and now the stations couldn't be more different.
