Metropolitan Opera on WMVU-AM Almost FM Quality (WMVU Very Self-effacing)

As many of you are aware, WMVU-AM 900 in Nashwah, NH (their jingle pronounces
Nashua that way. Not unusual...a jingle promoting activities in the
city of Lowell, MA goes "there a lot to like about Loal.") came under
new ownership recently. There have not been wholesale changes,
except that the old WMVU used to stay on after hours with daytime
power, now it has been observed (by moi) to sign on in the winter with
daytime facilites. Otherwise, it carries most of the same satellite-delivered
talk shows, with a slight increase in local input during morning and evening
drive-times. One broadcast from the previous ownership that has remained
is carriage of the Metroplitan Opera broadcasts. The first few weeks, the
audio quality wqas quite poor, akin the the land-line broadcasts of the 1940's.
I sampled it today, and the sound quality is much improved, almost FM-like
(without the stereo). The work today was Mozart's "The Marriage of
Figaro", and I listened through the second half of the First Act.
Just for fun, since the conclusion of any act of a broadcast opera
leads to a station ID, I stayed tuned to see if there was anyone on-duty
at WMVU to jump in at that point. Nah...thirty seconds of dead air.
I guess WMVU is rather self-effacing, not wanting listeners to know
who's bringing them the opera!
