That was probably because the summer of 1996 was when
Hot 107.9 (WWHT) had just flipped to Top 40 from
Country, and they were totally jockless at that point
running only music, station liners, and a few
commercials IIRC (I think WWHT may have actually used
board ops 24/7 during this time frame too, I believe
1996 was a year or two too early for some of the hard
drive automation equipment that is now so commonplace
today, in small and major markets alike).  So it does
not surprise me at all that you heard a "trainwreck"
like that go on that station
