96.3 WLOB-FM signal

Earlier this week, there was discussion here about the signal strength of
96.3 WLOB-FM Rumford and the area covered by the signal. Both Chris Beckwith
and I had indicated that we thought the current signal of the station seemed
weaker than the signal had been in the past.

Tonight, I talked with a friend of mine that worked at the then WWMR in the
mid-1980s. He indicated that my memory of the signal coverage of the station
was flawed and that eastern Cumberland County and Sagadahoc County were
always on the margin of the 96.3 signal. The station did cover
Lewiston/Auburn and Augusta/Waterville well and apparently still does. In
the 1980s, CHR WWMR actually showed up in the Augusta/Waterville ratings.

The same friend also worked at 95.9 WHYR Saco in the 1980s, which is now
WRED. My friend agrees that it would take a combination of 95.5, 95.9, and
96.3 to provide blanket coverage of southern and central Maine.
