More changes at WMTW
According to Scott Fybush's NERW: "WMTW is also changing hosts on its morning
show; George Campbell will leave at month's end, replaced by Portland Press
Herald columnist Bill Nemitz."
This will be a major improvement. George Campbell has a horrible voice that
should never be heard on the radio. I will never understand how he got the
job. There is a reason that the people on the radio generally have pleasant
voices. Campbell also has business or political connections to most of the
big stories in the area, making for many conflicts of interest.
I am not a big fan of Nemitz, but when I have heard him on the show he has
been good. I wonder about him doing a three hour radio show everyday, plus
writing 4 newspaper columns a week. I hope he's being well paid.
The other problem I see is that the show will now have two liberal hosts.
Campbell is a moderate, pro-business Democrat. Nemitz is pretty much a
knee-jerk liberal. The talk audience, even in a liberal state like Maine, is
right-of-center. I think it makes sense to have a conservative co-host on a
morning talk show, like WGAN has done since changing to talk in the early
90's.
