I just thought of the answer to the Hartford - Springfield quagmire, and 
also a response to an earlier assertion that digital TV is not needed.

Since digital TV allows a station to broadcast multiple streams, there is 
no reason (at least no technical reason) why WFSB-1 could not carry one 
game, while WFSB-2 carries the other game.  Of course there may be legal or 
advertising considerations, but at least there is a good use for this 
new-fangled technology.
