WGGB-TV Severe Transmitter Problems

WGGB-TV's (40 Springfield) transmitter is about to completely die, and had
knocked their audio off twice now. Monday night during the end of the 3rd
quarter, complete 4th quarter, and their 11pm news had no audio "carrier".
Then last night during the 5pm news, they lost audio again, went to "open
captioning" until approximately 6pm when the engineering reset the aural
cabinet. The aural cabinet of the transmitter is in seriously poor shape and
it's going to only be a matter of time before it just goes dead completely
and they're stuck with a serious problem. I can only assume when they get
their channel 55 DTV transmitter, they will probably use one of the tubes to
transmit a reduced power analog 40 signal. The one they are using now has a
lot of noise in it, chroma noise, and a hum.

Of course if the rumors of Sinclair selling the station are true, they could
be waiting for the sale to go through before any new equipment is installed.
