During the gulf war (Pre-Westinghouse/ars/infinity et al days) WODS went
with continous coverage for the first night with local cut-in's by myself
and Gordon Hill. After the first night of air attacks we took twice an
hour updates from CBS Radio with cut in's when something major occured as
well as local coverage in both drive shifts. Oldies numbers dropped by
.4 during that book, I for one believe that the numbers would have
dropped by a significantly larger amount had we not provided the coverage
that we did, our listeners knew they didn't have to go somewhere else to
get an update on the war. IIRC WEEI was still all news and WBZ was
leaning hard in that direction. (IIRC the other FM's in the market that
did not provide coverage dropped far more than .4)
Just to be fair to WZLX the Pru was evacuated, so my guess is that they
turned on a PC loaded with music etc and all personel had to leave the
building.
