I agree that it is weird because NBC owns part of Pax. I am positive that
they were carrying CNN because Pax is Channel 3 on my cable system and UPN
35 is Channel 4 and both were running the same programming earlier.
UPN 35 and WPXT are now simulcasting a local newscast. Actually, it just
ended and WPXT is back to Fox News and UPN 35 back to CNN.
The local stations stretching for local angles on this story seems a little
strained. The human tragedy and our nation's response is the most
significant part of the story. The local stations are appropriately
reporting cancellations and the appropriate response of local officials, but
in my opinion, they have gone a little far in trying to get local reaction
to make themselves part of the story.
On a more positive note: I have been watching mostly NBC and CNN since about
3:00 PM and both have done an excellent job. The only significant negative
that I saw was Judy Woodroth getting into an argument with Tom Clancy when
he blamed the media for no reporting more on our lack of a human
intelligence capability. Judy lost her objectivity in that dispute, but
I'll cut her slack because we've all had a long day.
