This deal has a long way to go if it happens at all; it's a hostile bid that
follows unsuccessful talks with AT&T management. C. Michael Armstrong has
plenty of reasons to resist, including the nearly $100 billion he (over)spent
building T's cable assets. Comcast's Brian Roberts has to act quickly because a
shareholder vote to spin off AT&T Broadband as a separate company is being held
later this month. All this having been said, it's a pretty sensible deal from a
synergy and valuation standpoint, even if it furthers the growing consolidation
of the cable industry.
