Streaming-CLEAR CHANNEL RETURNS
I just received this digest item from NewsScan, an online newsletter I
subscribe to:
(Snip)...
Clear Channel Interactive, a unit of the nation's largest radio station
owner, is returning to the Internet in July with 250 stations. This
time,
Clear Channel will use technology from Hiwire Inc. to strip out
commercials
heard by radio listeners and substitute new ads designed specifically
for
the Internet. Though labor union contracts require additional payments
to
performers when radio or TV ads are streamed online, the unions are now
expected to settle for lower fees for Webcast ad spots, because stations
on
the Internet can't afford the advertising fees that established radio
stations are able to pay. (Los Angeles Times 19 Jun 2001)

Hiwire was one of the companies/technologies mentioned in the original
discussion on the list.
