Everyone DID play it at the time, but quickly dropped it.   Either because it 
wasn't Chapin's best song,  or because the numbers-conscious General Manager 
finally heard it!   -  WOLD climbed the charts moderately slowly, but dropped 
off Billboard quickly.   Another reason it got played was because just aboujt 
every DJ identified with it.  I mean, who hasn't done "gigs" at teen-age sock 
hops, as a supplement to radio's bountiful salaries?
