Shift of power in Senate could hold the line on broadcast deregulation

Today's Cynthia Turner's Cynopsis reports that Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) is
to become chairman of the Commerce Committee. Hollings is on record as being
against eliminating the TV-newspaper cross-ownership rule and for keeping the
35% ownership cap as well as the "safe harbor" rule regarding violent content on
TV. Hollings' clout is further enhanced by his oversight of the subcommittee
that holds the FCC's purse strings.

Take care,
Chris
