May Issue of Atlantic Monthly (tm)
My copy of the May issue of The Atlantic Monthly(tm)
magazine arrived yesterday. If you're not familiar
with it, The Atlantic is a major journal of thought
in the U.S. But aside from the usual "serious"
aricles that fill the "middle of the book", there are
shorter articles that cover a multitude of subjects,
and the May issue has an article by Bill McKibben
about NPR. (Mr. McKibben is the author of an excellent book about the influence of TV on American
"culture" called "The Age of Missing Information"...highly recommended.)
The article in the new Atlantic, probably not on the
magazine racks of the relatively few stores that sell
it yet, is a retrospective on NPR's "All Things Considered"
plus a comment or two about other NPR offerings. As it
turns out you don't have to spring for a couple of
bucks or travel to your local library; like so
many publications, it's on the internet free-of-charge.
