Storm Coverage
A few observations:
WCVB Channel 5 expanded their Noon news today to an hour. WBZ Channel 4
stuck to their usual half hour. WHDH as usual has an hour of news at Noon.
Yesterday morning, WCVB took the prize for having the most meterologists on
the air in a newscast. On the Eyeopener they had David Brown at the map,
throwing it over to David Epstein at the Storm Track 5 radar desk to explain
what the radar was showing and zooming in on specific areas of the stste to
see how heavy the precip was, etc. Then a few times they went out to the
roof of WCVB, where Mark Rosenthal was standing getting rained or snowed on.
On the evening newscasts, Dick Albert manned the map with David Brown
manning the radar desk. It was also made clear that Dick Albert interrupted
his vacation in some warm weather resort area (Bermuda or Aruba??) just to
be here for this storm. WBZ TV's Ed Carroll wasn't around for this storm,
however. Bruce Schwoegler did a fine job, as did Barry Burbank, keeping us
updated on the weather.
I must say, Bruce will be missed at the WBZ TV weather map when he does his
last forecast in May. He is a class act, and doesn't sensationalize the
weather. Just calls it as he sees it.
