Re: the language watch continues

Sven,
and that's a BAD thing??? i mean, gee, c'mon... it's Jeri Ryan! (whoo
hoo!) <raging hormone mode off>
but if i may add, i think Brian was right on the money when he suggested
(earlier) that it might be more of an incentive to entice a younger demo to
watch the news to have coverage of our leaders, or those that strive to
become our leaders, act or react in a manner which many of us have
more-than-likely done likewise.
when "we" (collectively on the list, i'd put average age around "28"
<<read that 45>>) and we had nightly coverage of the things that our peers
(or maybe those just slightly older) were doing, we watched. perhaps at
first at the urging of parents or teachers, but we watched. there were
protests and calls for change here at home, and a war in Southeast Asia which
did affect, if not us directly, then perhaps those we personally knew.
on the other hand, as a parent, i cringe when i try and watch the 6pm news
with the kids in the room and have to get into a discussion with a 7 or a 12
year old about sexual predators and the specifics that are sometimes
included. there are some subjects which we as parents can approach and
discuss intelligently (or at least intelligent to a 7 year old's
understanding) on our own level and at a time of our choosing.
in the instance of the governor making a remark along the lines of
something we've all done at one time or another, well, so be it. the man's
human. he has opinions. and as follow-up coverage during the morning had
indicated, he stands behind the statement while feeling "sheepish" about
having it heard beyond the hearing of the individual as he'd intended.
although i'd hate to be on the end of the phone call from "MOM". ( <family
conversation mode on> "....but Ma, he IS one!...")
