Re: WMEX to end all-local talk

Yes, Mark Shneyder reported that yesterday. I think that's a mistake for
WMEX, but Sayatt probably needs to promote his dances and was willing to pay
WMEX's prices to do so. And I'm sure that WMEX can use the time-brokerage
fees. Even when his dating show was on WRKO, it was simply abysmal radio,
and when the show moved to TalkAmerica (which was then on 1510 24/7--can
anyone remember what the 1510 calls were at the time? I can't) the show was
so horrendous that I couldn't figure out whether to laugh or cry (at what
talk radio had sunk to).

In my opinion, Sayatt is simply not a major-market talent. He has a bad
voice and, even worse, a condescending manner. Perhaps one way to liven up
the show would be to offer a prize to every caller who catches Sayatt asking
him/her a question that s/he has answered within the past 30 seconds. Nearly
every caller would get a prize. To do the show any good, though, the contest
would have to offer prizes that _cost_ Sayatt something--not tradeouts or
tickets to his own dances. Granted, a dating show is inherently dull, but
Sayatt apparently just sleepwalks through the show. I don't think he even
has what it takes to do a brokered-time show that meets the standards of
WROL, although his abilities might be a good match for WUNR or WLYN. I've
got it---WALE (990 in Providence)! What a perfect fit.

Sayatt's program is probably the best remedy in radio history for any
ratings whatsoever. That is, if a station has any ratings at all and takes
Sayatt's program, the ratings will drop to zero rather quickly. My barber,
Frank, who is about the same age as I am and is also widowed, used to have
Sayatt on every Saturday morning on WRKO until the barbershop patrons
revolted and told Frank they'd leave en masse for the place down the street.
Frank switched to WXKS (AM).
