Re: WPTR
Crawford Broadcasting, which used to be run by Donald Crawford (the DC in
the former calls, WDCD and the calls of many other Crawford-owned stations).
All of Crawford's stations used to have religious formats. Recently, the
elder Mr Crawford ceded some measure of control of the company to his
children, and in markets such as the Capital District, in which Crawford
owns multiple stations, some decent AM properties--WPTR, KAAM 770, Dallas
(whose daytime 10-kW ND signal is a killer), KLZ 560, Denver (arguably
Denver's second best AM signal), and WLGZ 990, Rochester are the four I
recall--have been flipped to the hard-drive-automated Legends adult
standards format. Legends is mostly jockless but uses voice-tracked
automation in some dayparts in some markets. There's some question about
who, if anyone, syndicates the Legends format. It is _not_ satellite
delivered, but at least one station not owned by Crawford (WWLG Baltimore)
runs an AS format under the Legends name.
