Re: IBOC

<< IBOC is a crock... and it appears more foolish now that technology has
already made it obsolete before it even exists in the commercial realm. I'd
rather listen to a decent AM signal doing music than 96kbs audio. >>

IBOC was created, on paper at least, in an atmosphere of panic over the
expected arrival of Eureka 147. It was as if Henry Ford, afraid that the
proliferation of the airplane would put his car plant out of business, had
convinced the primary automobile trade association to reject real planes and
endorse his idea to install retractable wings on all future production cars.
Then he'd have handed it to the engineers with the order to "make it fly."

With enough effort, a car with wings might just be made to lift off the
ground. But it would never be a LearJet or a G-5!

And with enough effort, apparently a period lasting longer than a decade,
IBOC --digital radio on narrow-band AM and FM channels-- might just work
well enough to be legally called 'digital' audio. But it will always be a
Yugo in a world of Ferraris, Maseratis, and Benzes.
