Sunday Telegram covers local TV News battle
The link below will take you to a pretty good story about the local TV news
rating battle in Maine, which WCSH is currently winning handily. The story
analysis the situation pretty well, but does mess up some of the history.
The story indicates that WCSH first became competitive with WGME when Pat
Callahan & Cindy Williams were put together on the anchor desk. While Pat &
Cindy have been the most successful team, WCSH first became completive with
WGME in the 1980s when John Dougherty & Neila Smith were the anchors.
Richard Rose replaced Dougherty when he went to Boston in 1988. (Rose &
Smith were reunited at WMTW a few years ago, but could not repeat their
earlier success at WCSH.) Later, Jan Fox replaced Smith, then Callahan
replaced Rose, and Williams replaced Fox in 1990 when Fox got a job in DC.
WCSH's entire on air team, Callahan, William, Joe Cupo and Bruce Glasier have
been together for 10 years.
Does anyone know what happened to Denise Kenniston who was one of th anchors
on WMTW until just a few months ago? Also, does anyone know where Dennis
Spellman ended up?
