J-Light makes it official
This morning, I heard the first "official" announcement on 1060 of the
upcoming flip of 1060 and 650 formats. According to the announcement, the
flip will take place at sign-on this Saturday morning 1/22/2000. AM-drive
host Tim Horton also announced that Great Commission Broadcasting, the
company that leased 1060 from Langer, will go out of business at sign-off
tomorrow (probably a bit of hyperbole). M-Street Journal had previously
announced that the lease with option to buy for 650 is with Grace
Broadcasting, the licensee of WNEB in Worcester. I believe that the
principals in Grace and Great Commission are pretty much the same, but there
must be some advantage to having the WNEB license and the WJLT lease under
the same corporate name. Horton, as an individual, originally purchased WNEB
from the previous licensee, Heirwaves, which had purchased the station a
year or so earlier from Bob Bittner. Within a matter of weeks after becoming
the licensee of WNEB--I assume after financing was arranged--Horton
transferred the license to Grace.
