Re: Press Herald attacks WCLZ format change
This article is very similar to the Casco Bay Weekly article that came out on
Thursday. Pahagian and Ivy are still trying to sell the same b.s. that Saga
and Citadel are actually offering Portland listeners more choices. Kevin
Keogh, on his way out of the business when the Downeast Radio Group is sold
to WMTW, gave the best analysis. He was honest in saying "Broadcasters
aren't in the business to lose money. They need to do something that makes
money, so they try to do something that has mass appeal." Why couldn't
Pahagian and Ivy be as honest? Keogh also explained how Citadel is trying a
a "flanking attack" by using WPTN to cut into WMGX's older listeners and WJBQ
to cut into WMGX's younger audience.
The story also mentioned that J.J. Jeffrey has picked up the WCLZ call
letters for the former WXGL at 95.5 Topsham.
