Controversy over time compression in New York

The New York Post is doing a series of articles this week on the controversial
Prime Image CASH digital time compression device which is a sort of Eventide
Harmonizer for live radio, creating more commercial minutes per hour for talk
shows like Rush or Dr. Laura and the like by eliminating pauses and other gaps
between words without affecting pitch. Rush complained about the device's use
on WABC-AM/New York, which has at least temporarily suspended time compression
on his show, but his syndicator's parent Clear Channel is all for the box, so
he'll probably have to toe the line eventually. Of course KISS 108
(WXKS-FM/Medford-Boston) and countless other music stations has been doing this
sort of thing for years by deliberately pitching up their music.

Take care,
Chris
