steve,
now my serious answer. WMJX has been doing what they are doing, very
well, since 1981. Consistency and Patience wins, every single time. GM
seems to be fine tuning the niches for the other stations involved. once
something feels good, they will run with it.
They've built up a solid base with Country, and it's no wonder that WKLB
hasn't done better: from 96.9 WBCS to 96.9 WKLB to 99.5 WKLB, all
within the past 3 years. it's a lot of changes for an average listener to
keep track of, but it seems that the format is here for the long run. GM
knows that consistent programming will reap results.
WROR is still a "newby", which, by the way, outlasted Eagle. WODS has done
good/great in the ratings becasue they've been providing a consistent
product.
Also WSJZ is still new. Remember, WSJZ just went through an identity and
frequency shift as well (from WOAZ 99.5 to 96.9 WSJZ)
WBOS had a great book, and, is a very listenable station (i'm a GTM fan since
just after he took over for Clark at WCOZ...)
Consistency, and patience. It's worked for Greater Media to this point,
and i know those us here hope it will work for them in the future. (see also
a previous posting about staff loyality/longevity...?)
now, if you can't see the leash in my mouth, it's time for David Allan
Boucher to take me out for a walk before he heads home for the night. <g
