My poor memory is being taxed here, but when WEZE was located in the
fishbowl in Park Sq, (with Western Union clocks everywhere) they had the NBC
chimes on their outside sign. Sometime in the mid 60's, NBC moved to WCOP
(perhaps when they dropped Top 40), and the reasons I remember this is
twofold.
1. WEZE covered up the chimes
2. WCOP carried Monitor on weekends....Gene Rayburn I recall was a regular
host.
Anybody have an idea when that switch was made?
The one big plum a station had in those days with NBC was the World Series,
which I remember was on WEZE in the early 60's, but by 1967 had flipped to
WCOP...but I am *pretty sure* that NBC landed at WCOP by 1965, way before
their switch to country.
WORL was ABC in 1965 and Mutual lived at WBOS-AM. I remember WBOS fondly as
an announcer there would always take the time to answer a wide eye kids
questions. His name was Norm Ruby, and I suspect he may have had a pretty
interesting career with the set of pipes he was blessed with.
