Two reasons. First off, a change in commercial will peak a listeners
interest--the listener would think the stopset was ending--thus allowing
for more attention during the :60 second time frame. Also, it allows
the company to advertise two separate product lines within the same time
buy. In the case of McDonalds, many times the first :30 second spot
will be a major chainwide promotion, while the second spotlights a
regional promotion, and spots can be mixed and matched easily.
