I remember an incident which took place around 1959 or 60, on a Saturday
morning. When I woke up, I decided, for some reason, to listen to my FM
radio. I found a station where normally there was none, and it was
broadcasting an NBC news feature. Since there were a lot of new FM
stations signing on at that time, I thought I had a new station. Since
WEZE was the local NBC affiliate at that time, I assumed that this was a
new WEZE-FM. Then I finally caught an ID, and it was WTIC-FM in
Hartford. I was in Bedford, Mass. Hartford stations don't normally come
in there. Exploring the dial, I found a couple of New York stations as
well. Eventually, they all faded out. I would estimate that they were
gone in about a half hour, maybe an hour. I think the time of the year
was spring. The hour was probably around 8 AM or so.
