Maybe I am missing something, but isn't the shutdown of AM CBC service
costing them more money in the longrun?
Plus losing the nightime audience in the upper 2/3's of the US, which I
assume promoted some goodwill. If the CBC was simply selling to the high
bidder I could understand ( like they did with the creative selloff of the
CBC English TV station in Quebec City to Global)
Then again I never understood why CBC radio dropped HNIC on the radio side
either. For someone who years ago used to enjoy listening to CBL and CBM
sign off 5 minutes apart at 1 AM, just to hear both O Canada and God Save
the Queen, it is a sad event.
*note* Both CBL Toronto and CBM Montreal would sign off at 1 AM after the
network news, but it took Toronto longer to announce all the transmiter
locations.
