Re: The Theocratic Right taking over the dial...

bashing and ridiculing can also be put with bitchin' and complainin' as
"entertainment" in current programming circles.

i think the left can be as humorous and entertaining as the right (as well as
intellectual and meaningful ratings-wise), if given the chance, but they are
not. of course, humor isn't always the problem, as stated in the post.
sponsorship of those who challenge the halls of power is limited. as well,
follow the lack of money given to left of center hosts. jim hightower is
always struggling to stay on the air. when jim braude tried to get a talk show
off the air with me and chuck morse a few years back, to compete with "the
(only) talk station" in town, none of his union/lefty buds wouldn't sponsor
the program. media orgs, like the boston phoenix is one example i can think of
with left of center editorial positions and are already in radio and paper,
are in a position to attempt left of center programming in the talk format.
they already have a pretty good reporting team for the front section. imagine
what great local talk they could be doing if there was interest in buying an
am station over at phoenix media communications.

<< As for "taking over the AM dial", there are two different things at play
 here:

1-"Bitchin' and complaining" is entertaining. The Left tends to
whine, whereas the Right tends to jump up and down, kicking and
    screaming--i.e., "putting on a show";

2-Follow the money. Most of the "far Right"--and even "far Center",
i.e., Populists and Conspiratorialists--tend to be on some sort
    of--at least partial?--brokered time arrangement (e.g., Chuck
Harder, Ron Reagan and even Art Bell), thus AM stations find such
    shows economically attractive.
